Maranui SLSC is a fun, family-friendly environment where kids make friends, get active and enjoy the beach in a safe environment.
Our Junior Surf programme runs on Sunday mornings from November to March for children aged 5 to 13. Kids learn basic water safety and lifesaving skills and have the opportunity to compete at local carnivals.
Junior surf gives your kids the confidence and skills to be safe at the beach and provides the foundational skills for our lifeguards of the future.
We would love you to join and be a part of the Maranui whanau.
For more information about what to expect at Junior Surf please see our Juniors on Sunday page.

Maranui SLSC is committed to the safety and well-being of all children involved in our activities. We have a comprehensive Safeguarding Children Policy in place to ensure a safe and supportive environment for our young members. You can read more about this policy here.
Kids aged 10-13 years will be tested for their 200m swim badge, this is a pre-requisite for using the knee-boards.
Testing will take place before Christmas at the beach or a local pool, look out for information about these testing sessions.
We do not teach swimming and highly recommend that your children are enrolled in pool swimming lessons throughout the year to support them at surf. Follow the links below for local swim clubs that support good swimming programmes.
Note If your child is unable to complete this assessment, they can still take part in Junior Surf - we offer an alternative programme to support their skill development as they work towards the 200m badge.
For older kids who want a bit more, we also run a Junior Development Programme.
The key focus of the programme is to develop skills, technique and most importantly, have FUN. All athletes will start to fill their tool box with skills and confidence to take part in several regional carnivals, before travelling to Mount Maunganui in February to compete at Oceans - the national surf competition.
These sessions are also a good foundation for kids who are looking to train as lifeguards in the future.
We would love to invite any Maranui members in the U11-U14 groups to give it a go, and be part of the FUN.
This season, training sessions will runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm - 7pm.
