PARENTS/CAREGIVERS - HOW CAN I HELP?

Parents/Caregivers - How Can I Help?.....Where do I start?

There are so many ways to be involved as a parent at Junior Surf. You only need to ask….

Most of our volunteers are Nipper parents. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to have fun and get involved.

It is our experience that the more YOU get involved the more your child will enjoy Junior Surf.  The club relies on volunteer help particularly on a Sunday. There are many jobs and you do not need to have surf life saving experience.

Your help during training sessions is always required and appreciated by the coaches whether setting up equipment, cleaning and packing away the gear, helping on the beach or being involved in the water.

Parent involvement is also crucial when it comes to attending surf carnivals. Whether it be as a water helper/official or putting up the tent  – we need you.

If you have a talent we are sure we can use it! There are so many different facets to running Junior Surf, if you have some time available or have a great idea please contact the Junior Surf Coordinator. Thanks.

Some of the available roles include:

  • Raking the beach flag area on a Sunday morning from 9.30am. Work off the Saturday night excesses!

  • Helping the coaches in the water on a Sunday. We need a certain amount of volunteers in order to run the Junior Surf sessions. Throw on your wetsuit and give us a hand! It really is refreshing.

  • Coaching (courses available) – Fundraising – Junior Surf Coordination – Junior Surf sign in – wash caps  – Carnivals – Beach Activities including flags all need parent help.

  • Officials 1:10  - Maranui needs a 1:10 ratio of officials to athletes on Carnival Days. This means for every 10 athletes there must be 1 official (1:10). For example, if Maranui has 30 junior competitors at a carnival we require at least 3 Maranui officials. Maranui needs more Officials. Please put your hand up and become an Official.

Note:  As a parent or guardian you are required to be at the beach at all times during activities. Your child remains your responsibility. Medication, trips to the toilet and general welfare of each child is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Junior Surf is not a drop off activity.

Join in … you’ll love it as much as your child does.
