🎽 What to Bring

  • Togs, towel, goggles, drink bottle, sunhat, sunscreen, something warm for afterwards.
  • Optional but recommended: full-length wetsuit.
  • Uniform:
    • U6–U9: coloured age cap (issued each session) + pink/red hi-vis vest.
    • U10–U14: pink/red hi-vis vest.

🙌 Parent Involvement

Nippers isn’t a spectator sport! We rely on parents to keep kids safe and help us make sure everyone is having the best time. Plus kids love seeing you in the water - wetsuits aren’t just for the kids!

  • U6 - 7s: A parent/caregiver must be in the water with their child at all times.
  • U8–U10s: Parent involvement is strongly encouraged either in the water or right at the water’s edge, ready to step in if needed.
  • U11 - U14s: Parents on the beach or helping in the clubhouse

Junior Surf is a team effort, coaches lead the sessions, but we rely on parents for the smooth running of the day. You can help by:

  • Assisting with gear set-up/pack-down
  • Supporting kids in the water and on the beach
  • Helping tidy changing rooms after sessions

200m Badge Info

All kids aged 9–13 (U10-U14) can be tested for their 200m swim badge. This is required before they can compete with paddle boards or water events in the Surf Carnivals.

This is refreshed every year and testing will take place before the first carnival. Keep an eye out for more detail on these sessions which will be held at the beach or in a local pool.

🏖️ Junior Carnivals

Maranui takes part in a number of Junior Carnivals. These are fun, family-friendly events where surf clubs come together to compete.

  • Open to athletes aged 7 and older as at 30 September 2025 (U7s do not compete.)
  • Regular Sunday Junior Surf sessions are not held when there is a carnival on.

We’ll be in touch closer to each carnival date to ask about registrations.
