Surf Lifesaving Certificate
The progression to becoming a Maranui Surf Lifeguard continues after attaining Surf Levels.
This is for Nippers that are aged 12 and 13. Maranui runs a programme; written and designed by Marc Pulepule, to help Nippers become ready to sit their Lifeguard Award at age 14. Maranui calendars an overnight stay at the Club for this age group to better understand rescue equipment, lifeguarding techniques and what is required to becoming a Maranui Surf Lifeguard.
This is usually calendared for the end of the season in March so as not to clash with calendared Surf Sports (check Events/Calendar).
The programme introduces components in pool, beach and in a Surf Class environment: covering basic First Aid, basic CPR, life saving equipment (such as Tube rescue, Rescue Board and IRB).
All candidates to this programme will be expected to pass practical and written assessments to attain the Surf Lifesaving Certificate (mirroring similar conditions to that of the Lifeguard Award course).
Assessments are completed in accordance with SLSNZ Junior Surf Manual.
The benefits to completing this overnight programme for Nippers is to gain direct access to the Lifeguard Award course without trialling.
