Ocean Athletes (11-13yrs)
For over 90 years, surf lifeguards have been pitting themselves against one another to test their surf rescue skills. Historically, Maranui SLSC is one of New Zealand's most successful surf lifesaving clubs, having won many national, provincial and local awards in surf sport events.
From age 14 you can train to achieve your Surf Lifeguard Award and qualify as an active lifeguard. As an active lifeguard you can join our Ocean Athletes and compete in carnivals against other clubs and regions throughout the summer season.
Our athletes have the opportunity to compete in individual or team events ranging from beach sprints to Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) racing. These events test all components of surf life saving and are a great way to improve performance, develop skills and experience the thrill of competition.
Surf sports can really take you places. The World Life Saving Championships are held biannually, and New Zealand regularly competes against Australia and South Africa in tri nations events. By training with Maranui and developing your skills as a lifeguard, coach or official, you could find yourself representing not only your club, but your country as well.
If you're interested in putting your lifesaving skills to the test as a member of the Maranui Ocean Athletes please email oceanathletes@maranui.co.nz
Ocean Athlete training times and upcoming surf sport events are also listed on the Maranui Events Calendar.
